Welcome to Latin America
Since Latin American people descend from several different continents—Africa, Europe and Latin America itself—they bring together a mosaic of everything from music to food. In Latin America you can dance all night to Latin music, hike through the steamy Amazon rainforest, devour delicious tortillas and meet some of the most inspiring people you’ll find anywhere in the world.
But Latin Americans also face many challenges. The region has been slow to develop after centuries of colonial control by European countries. Economies and governments are still unstable and millions of people are living in poverty.
There is a lot of inequality between the indigenous population, which struggles with poverty and rural isolation, and the urban population, which has access to more opportunities. Though skyscrapers and billboards tower over bustling city streets, rural people are underserved and often lack access to education, health care and good nutrition.
