My name is Asha and this is my friend Hanu. We’re here to take you through our home, South Asia.
Have you ever tried food from South Asia? Maybe you’ve been to an Indian restaurant, or tried curry at home. You can find these sorts of spicy foods all over South Asia, but most people are living in poverty, so the food we eat is more basic.
In my village, we mostly eat simple grains, especially rice and lentils. Vegetables and spices are added to give our food the flavors we love.
In India, about one-third of the population is vegetarian—that’s because some Hindus and Buddhists don’t eat meat for religious reasons.
