Your Guides Ni hao! I’m Ping and this is my best friend Xiongmao. Let’s tour East Asia, our home.

Has your family ever ordered Chinese food? If you have, I bet it was a lot different from the food I eat at home. Most Chinese people living in rural areas like me don’t have any extra money to spare so the food we eat is very basic. We mostly eat rice and vegetables. We eat meat, especially pork whenever we can (in fact, it’s my favorite food!) but it’s hard for most people to afford.

Did you know that fortune cookies were invented in the United States? People don’t actually eat them in China at all! For a real Chinese treat, try baking this dessert with help from an adult:

Make Chinese Almond Cookies

The almond is an important part of Chinese cuisine and culture. It is used in some traditional Chinese medicines and in many soup delicacies. Get to know this nutritious nut by baking these popular cookies that can be found in Chinese bakeries around the world.
